Espanyol remain at the top of La Liga despite being held to a 1-1 draw at home to Getafe, while Atlético Madrid had crowned a fantastic week with a 4-0 home victory over Recreativo Huelva to go second.

Espanyol now have seven points from three matches, one point clear of Los Rojiblancos.

The hosts entered the match with 100 percent start to the season but it was Getafe who took the lead from the penalty spot just after the restart, when Joffre Guerrón drew a foul inside the area by Grégory Béranger.

Manu del Moral calmly converted the penalty to put Getafe in front - it was the first goal Espanyol had conceded in this season.

But Sergio Sánchez equalised 10 minutes later with a scrappy effort after the Getafe defence had been unable to clear a free-kick.

Espanyol dominated after that but Getafe held on for a point.

Meanwhile, Atlético bagged their third 4-0 win in a row at Vicente Calderón by demolishing Recreativo.

In-form Sergio Agüero opened the scoring less than 10 minutes as he headed home a free-kick from Simão.

Agüero thought he had scored again on 25 minutes but the effort was denied after Florent Sinama-Pongolle penalised for a foul in the lead-up to the goal.

Former Chelsea man Maniche, another man in great form, doubled the lead in the 53rd minute.

The Portuguese international seemed to be on the way out from the club in summer after looking destined to leave, but has surprisingly fought his way back into the team.

French striker Sinama-Pongolle, deputising for the injured Diego Forlán, scored twice in the last 13 minutes to sink his former club.
